Yael Grill decided not to take part in the committee's work for fear of a conflict of interest as she was supposed to investigate her former director of the Ministry of Defense • Israela Friedman will replace her in office • The committee will convene three times a week and hold its first meeting next Tuesday
Yael Grill, a member of the submarine investigation committee appointed by Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, decided today (Friday) not to take part in the committee's work for fear of a conflict of interest.
Until recently, Grill served as the director of the procurement department in the Prime Minister's Office.
She held a number of procurement positions in the defense establishment, and was to investigate her former director, Shmuel Zucker, who headed the procurement administration.
The grill will be replaced by Israela Friedman, who has held various positions in the Procurement Manager at the Ministry of Defense.
Bnei Gantz to Netanyahu: "Selling submarines is a personal matter? It requires an investigation"
The committee's chairman, Judge Amnon Strashnov, decided that the committee would convene three times a week starting this Tuesday, and that its first hearings would be closed to the public for information security reasons.
Later, discussions that do not include classified issues will be opened to the public and the media.
Some time after each committee discussion to be defined as classified, the minutes of the discussion will be distributed after the omission of the classified issues all out of a desire for maximum transparency of the committee discussions, subject to security constraints.
Along with Strashnov and Friedman, Major General (Res.) Avraham Ben-Shoshan, former commander of the Navy, will also take part in the committee.
The committee will focus on the following issues: the procedure in the defense system's procurement procedures regarding the storm ship Saar 6 and the submarines, the working interfaces between all parties involved in procurement, including the defense system, the Prime Minister's Office and the National Security Council, the IDF's responsibilities in procurement procedures
