On November 27, 2019,
the Express
published a chilling article describing dilapidated premises, rotten remains and gnawed by mice and evoking suspicions of the commodification of bodies within this center, the largest in Europe.
These revelations had led the Minister of Research Frédérique Vidal to order the closure of the center founded in 1953 and which received each year several hundred bodies voluntarily donated to science.
The minister had also requested an administrative inquiry from the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas) and the General Inspectorate of Sports Education and Research (Igésr).
According to their conclusions published on June 13, Paris-Descartes University is responsible for "
serious ethical breaches
" in the management of the CDC, which lasted for several years.
On July 9, the public health pole of the Paris prosecutor's office entrusted the investigation for "
attacking the integrity of the corpse
", opened the day after the publication of the article in
L'Express
, to an examining magistrate .
