Good news for all parents-to-be: Obstetrics at Schongau Hospital will resume operations on December 1, 2020.

This is the end of weeks of fear.

  • Midwives and parents-to-be worried for a long time

  • Now it is certain: the maternity ward at the Schongau hospital will open again on Tuesday

  • There is a strict hygiene concept

Schongau -

The tension of the past weeks can be clearly seen in the Schongau midwifery team.

Every midwife has been tested closely for Corona for weeks, so everyone has reduced their social contacts to virtually zero.

A positive test result was never there.

Nevertheless, the hope of a quick opening of the Schongau maternity ward had been dampened day by day.

The greater the relief yesterday in the delivery room: From Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. women can give birth here again - under the strictest security precautions.

“We were really worried about obstetrics.

She's just our baby, ”says midwife Nadine Lachmann.

“We are happy that we can be there for our women again.

It could hardly be safer in a maternity ward than here. "

Obstetrics in Schongau sealed off from the rest of the hospital

A hygiene concept was worked on for weeks.

Obstetrics in Schongau is now hermetically sealed off from the rest of the hospital.

The entrance for obstetrics is at the back of the hospital by the radiology department.

Pregnant women have to register for a birth and are regularly tested in the hospital before the appointment.

Couples who are about to give birth should follow the signs on Marie-Eberth-Straße.

Pregnant women ring the doorbell and the midwife personally picks them up.

Every pregnant woman is subjected to a rapid test, as is her partner.

The midwives will also continue to be tested closely.

In contrast to the woman giving birth, the midwives wear FFP2 and FFP3 masks and complete protective clothing.

This also means that each midwife can only look after one woman giving birth, as protective clothing cannot be constantly changed if two births occur at the same time.

“So we always go with a background shift if two births are due at once,” says Christine Eder.

For pregnant women this means 1: 1 care.

Single rooms and family rooms are available on obstetrics ward 5.

During the stay, this station may not be left or entered by strangers.

"Everything is prepared so that we can have Schongauer Kindl again."

The long-awaited opening takes place in close coordination with the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) and the district health department.

During an inspection on Thursday, everything was carefully examined on site - the green light was then given yesterday, Friday morning.

"We are very pleased that we are finally able to open the doors of our maternity clinic again for all pregnant women in our district and enable a safe birth operation in compliance with the highest hygienic standards in times of the corona pandemic," says Managing Director Thomas Lippmann.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß is also very relieved: "It takes a load off my heart."

Ikechukwu Emmanuel Anikwe and station manager Kirsten von der Heide: "Everything is prepared so that we can have Schongauer Kindl again."
