Hohenpeißenberg - "We were lucky that Hermann Summer is retired, so he now had time for this project," said Hohenpeißenberg mayor Thomas Dorsch in the council meeting when the pot map book "Historical Views of Hohenpeißenberg" was presented.

The little book, which shows around 100 postcards and pictures from Hohenpeißenberg and the surrounding area on 115 pages, is published by the community of Hohenpeißenberg.

The book, created by the community archivist Georg Scherzl and Herrmann Summer, is an interesting journey through time through the recent history of the town on the Hohen Peißenberg, which is characterized by mining and pilgrimage.

The historical views, which date from the years 1850 to 1960, have been classified into various subject areas such as "On the mountain" or "Gastronomy" or "Holiday greetings".

It begins with a greeting from the mayor and a foreword by the two authors.

“Enjoy browsing”, the two wish at the end.

And there is a lot to leaf through and discover in the little book, in which many of the postcards have brief explanations and all of them are provided with the year.

The postcard book was printed in an edition of 100 and can be bought for 10 euros in the Hohenpeißenberg town hall.

The basis for the booklet is the extensive postcard collection that the community began many decades ago.

Around 700 postcards with motifs from the village, the mountain and the surrounding area are stored in the community archive.

The purchase of a postcard collection in Polling contributed to this amount, as Dorsch explained.

"The collection is a great treasure because it also shows how the place has evolved."

Community archivist Scherzl had already taken care of the collection some time ago, continued it and, above all, made the effort to sift through and sort the many old cards.

When Hermann Summer retired as director of the Weilheimer Gymnasium, he turned to the community archivist Scherzl with his idea of publishing a book of postcards: "The collection is a wonderful treasure and it was important to me to make it accessible to others as well", said Summer at the presentation of the postcard book.

Scherzl immediately agreed and the mayor also supported the plan, said Summer, who digitized the postcards so that they can appear in the book.

"It was a bit of work," said Summer, but it was worth it.

“I think the book is also a nice gift.” He thanked Scherzl for the collaboration.

"I was very happy that you came to me with your idea," said the community archivist who had come to the council meeting for the book presentation - Summer has been a member of the committee since May and was there anyway.

"And then I'm happy that it worked out so well," said Scherzl.

Dorsch thanked Scherzl and Summer: “You sat there forever, it turned out to be a great story.” He is pleased that he now has a nice present for jubilees, anniversaries and other occasions.
