Lateral thinker demo: some get up, others prefer to sit

Around 100 lateral thinkers, around 100 counter-demonstrators: This is what the balance of power looked like on Friday at Marienplatz.

They say they are neither Nazis nor anti-Semites: the lateral thinkers who stopped at Marienplatz with their truck on Friday as part of the “Bavaria stands up!” Tour.

Right next to it on Marienplatz the counter demo: "Freising sits down!"

Around a hundred demonstrators had gathered, separated by barriers and watched by police forces to present their respective view of things in terms of corona measures: the lateral thinkers with microphones and loudspeakers, the counter-demonstrators from "Freising is colorful" with whisper bags.

Struggle for acoustic supremacy

It was a battle for acoustic supremacy on Marienplatz, which was fought with voice and music.

For example, the well-known folk musician Hans Laschinger performed with his accordion on the “Querdenker” truck to announce with Gstanzl that democracy was going badly.

Barbara Morawietz, who organized the lateral thinkers demo, described how she, the former SPD and Greens voter, had become a “Covidiot”, as she described herself ironically: First she was worried about Corona, then she was But it all "seemed strange".

And in the meantime she has realized that “it's not about a virus or masks, but much, much more”.

Above all - and this is what all the speakers on the “Querdenker” stage emphasized: She is not a Nazi or an anti-Semite.

Again and again the choirs where the speakers shouted “Peace!” And the demonstrators answered with “Freedom!”.

The counter demo could do that too: “Nazis” shouted Joana Bayraktar - “Get out!” Replied the people on her side of the barricade.

Stefano Angelopoulos, one of the co-founders of the “Querdenker” group in Freising, named numbers that were supposed to prove that Corona is not a pandemic, but a “planemic”: 25,200 people died of the flu in 2018, 15,000 so far from or with Covid 19. Another speaker emphasized that lateral thinking means “not to believe everything” that is “presented” to you by politics or the media - especially when it is events “that you want to sell us as never-ending horror scenarios” .

On the other side of the barriers, there was talk of trivializing and “inhumane” attitudes when lateral thinkers compared their situation with that of Anne Frank or Sophie Scholl.

A speaker called for an immediate end to mask requirements in schools

On the “Querdenker” stage, in front of which a coffin with the label “Rule of Law” was placed, in front of which people held up posters with the label “No Hygiene GDR”, a speaker called for an immediate end to masking requirements in schools.

"As a woman under 40 you will not die of Corona in Munich," the statistics would prove.

Instead of “torturing children”, it is better to protect the elderly.

A musician assured the "lateral thinkers" followers that they were "people with a warm heart", that they were the light that drove away the darkness.

"The others are standing in the dark," claimed another speaker, referring to the counter-demonstrators.

They were still sitting there, opposing it.

And in between the police who checked the mask requirement and distance.

When asked how many emergency services there were, Freising's PI boss Ernst Neuner answered: “Enough.” He was right.
