Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit this evening (Sunday) sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Deputy Prime Minister Bnei Gantz and Finance Minister Israel Katz, stating that action must be taken as soon as possible to advance the budget proposals for 2020-2021 and bring them up for discussion in the government.
By law, the government was supposed to put on the Knesset table the budget proposals for the past year and next year.
The adviser clarified that the deadlines set by law were intended to allow the Knesset "a proper period of time to hold a debate on the proposal - before it is approved."
The adviser also mentioned that High Court judges noted during a hearing in recent days that the government is currently violating the provisions of Basic Law: State Economy by not putting a budget proposal on the Knesset table.
In addition, Mandelblit mentioned that by tomorrow the government should submit to Beg See its response to a petition requiring the court to order the government to submit a budget proposal.
