It looks desolate on the terrace of the Starnberg youth club Nepomuk.

Unknown people burned furniture in the youth center on Thursday night - and caused immense damage.

Starnberg

- When the employees of the Starnberg Youth Center (JUZ) Nepomuk came to the meeting place right behind the district office on Thursday, they only noticed that the outside lighting had blown out.

The JUZ trainee found the reason a little later: Strangers had probably made a fire on Thursday night in the fireplace on the terrace of the Nepomuk at the back.

But they didn't use wood for the fire, but the furniture that stood around the fireplace.

And that wasn't made of wood, but made of plastic.

Apparently one of the three bench seats and two armchairs made of imitation rattan was burned, only the iron framework remained, one armchair has completely disappeared.

The police put the property damage at around 4,000 euros, Nepomuk director Michaela Hoffstedt can imagine that it is 5,000 euros.

Apart from the patio furniture, the entire area was affected.

The originally square fire bowl set in the ground itself is warped, whether it is still usable remains to be seen.

In the shell and on the floor around it: melted plastic everywhere, even the fixed wooden benches on the shell are charred.

It is almost a miracle that the fire did not spread to the JUZ.

The electrics had turned off automatically for safety.

Willful destruction: the experts come next

The flames were so high that the melted plastic splashed up on the fireplace.

And it was so hot that several rivets flew out of the chimney itself.

He was only able to withstand the flames to a limited extent.

The previously light wooden ceiling above is also black.

The boarding has to be down so that you can see whether the damage extends to the ceiling.

After the police were there on Thursday afternoon, the visit of the experts and the specialist companies is now looking into the house.

JUZ director Hoffstedt finds the wanton destruction "just unnecessary".

Her colleague Daniel Ternyik comments on it with gallows humor as "Corona anger".

Young people in Nepomuk angry about the action

What is left of the furniture stays at the ruined fireplace at least for the weekend.

“Everyone should notice that,” says the teacher.

Who could it have been?

“I can't imagine that these were young people who usually visit our house,” said Hoffstedt.

The young Nepomuk visitors are also annoyed that their outdoor seating area has been broken.

“I think it sucks that you do something like that,” says 15-year-old Filip, after all, the JUZ is there for everyone.

13-year-old Christian thinks it's "terrible" that someone else's property is destroyed.

“They didn't pay for it,” he says.

The Nepomuk posted the damage along with an appeal for witnesses on its Instagram page, so far without success.

The Starnberg police as well asks everyone who can provide information about the perpetrators to contact the local office on telephone (0 81 51) 36 40.
