Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko announced that the mass vaccination of Russian citizens against the emerging corona virus will begin early next year and in the months of January and February.
Sputnik news agency quoted Murashko as saying that vaccination of high-risk groups will start first, explaining that "mass vaccination will start with large batches, as high-risk groups will be vaccinated in December to ensure the sustainability and continuity of all services."
Murashko indicated that the at-risk groups include medical workers, teachers, vital services personnel, patients with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, the elderly, and those who have contracted the virus before and recovered as well.
He explained that vaccination, like any medical care, is only carried out with the patient's consent.
Russia had announced the registration of the world's first vaccine against the virus last August, as the first vaccine, Sputnik V, was so far developed by the Gamali Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Research, and the second was called Epivac Corona and developed by the Victor Governmental Center.
