MAINTENANCE - The maintenance of order no longer obeys a stable doctrine but the choices of the government on a case-by-case basis, which leads the police to show in turn weakness and a disproportionate use of force, argues the mayor of Montfermeil (Seine-Saint-Denis).

- The French took turns seeing the images of a music producer beaten up by police officers and of a CRS brutally beaten by rioters while he was on the ground, Saturday evening, during a demonstration in Paris.

Regarding the first case (the “blunder” committed by the police), is it an isolated case or is it symptomatic of a deeper malaise?

The number of seriously injured police officers on Saturday evening in Paris is a reminder of the extreme violence they have to face during certain demonstrations.

As for the assault on a music producer by the police, to date, in view of the known elements, the images revealed can only lead to the most total disapproval.

The authorities did not provide anything as a tangible fact that could put this event into perspective and qualify its assessment or even the judgment.

The lessons to be drawn from this affair seem to me to go beyond the probable sanction of the four police officers.
