Laurent Bourgnon's rant: "Stop your reality TV and follow these great sailors"

2020-12-02T21:51:00.416Z

The Franco-Swiss sailor paid a vibrant - and fiery - tribute to Jean Le Cam and the sailors of the Vendée Globe.

He has never done the Vendée Globe but he too has crisscrossed the oceans and taken risks that many would qualify as insane.

The latest?

A round-the-world trip on a 6.30-meter sport catamaran without a cabin before slaloming between the ices of the Arctic Ocean on this same frail skiff and finding yourself, according to his story, face to face with a polar bear.

The successful rescue of Kevin Escoffier by Jean Le Cam on Tuesday relieved Yvan Bourgnon.

“I didn't sleep a minute last night like thousands of people who were anxiously awaiting a happy ending for Kevin.

Unfortunately, I believe that no landowner and certain sailors can take the measure of what has just happened… ”, wrote the Franco-Swiss sailor on Facebook, before plucking laurels to the rescuer Jean Le Cam.

"Jean Le Cam is the best Everest Sherpa in the oceans you can have"

“Once again, our King John accomplished a mission of absolute complexity with ease, professionalism and humility.

I really hope that people will understand that the real hero of the Vendée Globe is Jean Le Cam and not just the future winner (that says this asshole, he is still capable of winning it and surprising us…).

What happiness to have recovered Kevin and what extraordinary behavior to have been able to reach his life raft underwater, to have had the right gestures to the second for his survival.

If you are looking for real adventurers, there you have it for your rank, no need to look elsewhere!

(…) When you sail in front of Le Cam you can sail with your eyes closed, whatever happens it is the best Everest Sherpa in the oceans that you can have.

And let's not forget that this huge guy is 61 years old and that he already had 3 weeks of intense races in his paws! ”

"How can we miss such heroic acts?"

Yvan Bourgnon

Saluting the work of the organizers of the Vendée Globe but also Boris Herrmann, Sébastien Simon and Yannick Bestaven who turned away to join the shipwrecked position, the brother of the late Laurent Bourgnon, who disappeared in 2015 in a diving accident, gives a rant , believing that this act of collective bravery would have deserved more echoes.

“When I see the fanaticism one can have for singers or sandbox actors, how can one miss such heroic acts?

(…) They (Escoffier and Le Cam) have both just written one of the most beautiful story of human adventure on water and almost in the total indifference of the general public… Stop watching your reality TV. con and biased news channels and follow these great sailors.

They give us the best lesson in life that we can have. ”
