The district believes that the temporary apartments are still needed.

Erding -

By June 2021 at the latest, the Free State of Bavaria will have to show how much the protection of female victims of domestic violence is worth to it.

Then the grant for the “Second Stage” model project, which was introduced in the Erding district a year ago, will expire.

The Bavarian Red Cross, as the sponsor of the women's shelter, has rented apartments to accommodate women and mothers with children who are no longer dependent on the special protection of the women's shelter and who are prepared here for their return to a largely normal and safe life with much less effort .

It has not yet been decided whether the model will become a regular grant.

In the first year, the district contributed 24,000 euros.

If the Ministry of Social Affairs stays in the boat, the district would have to contribute 10,500 euros from next July.

If the state jumps off, up to 58,000 euros will remain in the district, reported Christine Kaltenbach, head of the social welfare office in the district administration, and BRK district manager Gisela van der Heijden in the district committee.

The money is needed, among other things, for a specialist with 30 hours per week.

As part of “Second Stage”, two women have already been cared for, and they have now been placed in their own apartments - and that within less than seven months, according to van der Heijden.

Currently they are looking after a mother with two children.

In the district committee there was no doubt about the necessity of the “second stage” as an interim solution from the domestic spiral of violence.

Hans Wiesmaier (CSU), however, warned against a premature commitment by the district to take over the support of the state if necessary.

Then you could make it easy for yourself in Munich.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer (CSU) also sensed this danger.

"We must not let the state out of responsibility here and insist on regular funding." CSU parliamentary group leader Thomas Bauer suggested resubmitting the topic once the state has committed itself.

Basically, however, you want to stick to the project.

The district grants more money, namely 33,000 instead of 30,000 euros, for the intervention center, which is also attached to the women's refuge.

In the event of acute use of force by men, for example, the police will call her so that victims can quickly get into protective hands.

According to van der Heijden, a new funding guideline prescribes an “increase in the number of specialist staff”.

“That means more performance by the women concerned and thus a higher quality offer,” said Kaltenbach.

The increase is also needed because of increased personnel costs.

The district committee did not want to ignore this.

The BRK boss also provided information about the women's refuge itself.

Since the beginning of the year 32 women have been cared for there, 16 with their children.

29 girls and boys could be protected in this way.

“We are currently looking after four victims of violence,” says van der Heijden.

Corona has also made work in the women's refuge more difficult.

The BRK rented its own quarantine apartment.

Only those who were demonstrably negative for Covid-19 were allowed to move.

According to the managing director, rapid tests are now being used to prevent Sars-CoV-2 from being introduced into the protective device.

In addition, due to the pandemic and the lockdown, it is not possible to say how many victims did not even reach the women's refuge, for example because they could not make a phone call or flee in view of the man who was constantly at home.

“We even offered counseling while shopping and put out flyers at gynecologists and in clinics,” reported van der Heijden.

Nevertheless, the demand was weaker.

Ulla Dieckmann (SPD) feared that Corona had hidden many cases of domestic violence.

And Helga Stieglmeier (Greens) said “that the ads will go up a lot when the restrictions are over”.

After all, Bayerstorfer was able to report that “we did not notice any increase in the number of victims of violence in the clinic”.

However, no statistics are kept for this.

Van der Heijden emphasized that the offers are being advertised intensively, but Dieckmann advised to use the communal newsletters and to hang up posters.

The women's emergency number

... can be reached around the clock on Tel. (0 81 22) 97 62 43.

In acute cases, the police can be alerted by calling 110.
