The video, widely distributed and commented on on social networks, shows a column of police officers attacked by a group of individuals on the Place de la Bastille, invaded by tear gas fumes.

The police receive projectiles and a man hits them with an iron bar.

One of the officials fell to the ground and was beaten by several people, before being relieved by one of his colleagues.

So far, no suspect has been identified.

Witnesses must be heard and images used.

98 police officers and gendarmes were injured during demonstrations against the law and police violence, which gathered 133,000 people in France on Saturday, including 46,000 in Paris, according to the Interior Ministry.

The organizers counted 500,000 participants, including 200,000 in the capital.

The death toll among the protesters was not disclosed.

The Paris prosecutor's office has also opened an investigation, entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), to determine the causes of the injuries of the independent Syrian photographer Ameer al-Halbi, a former AFP employee.

In Paris, 29 people, including three minors, were taken into police custody at the end of the demonstration.

Five of them were presented for immediate trial.

Three requested a referral to prepare their defense.

A fourth suspect, prosecuted for carrying a weapon - a hammer - and participation in a group to commit violence, was sentenced Monday to six months in prison with a probationary suspension with the obligation to perform 105 hours of community service.

A fifth person was tried Tuesday afternoon without knowing the outcome of the trial.
