12 Hong Kongers were suspected of absconding and were detained by Shenzhen Public Security Bureau for 100 days.

155 parliamentarians from 18 countries issued an open letter on December 1, urging Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam to intervene in the incident to ensure that 12 Hong Kong residents can return to Hong Kong, can directly contact their families, allow them to arrange legal representatives and obtain the necessary drugs.

The joint letter pointed out that as the chief executive, Carrie Lam has the responsibility to intervene in the incident to ensure that they receive justice, otherwise it is to give up the responsibility of serving Hong Kong people and ensuring their well-being and safety.

Members of the co-signature came from the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the European Union and other countries, including Marco Rubio, Chairman of the US Senate Intelligence Committee and Tom Tugendhat, Chairman of the British Foreign Affairs Committee.

Twelve Hong Kong residents were arrested by the Guangdong Coast Police in the southern waters of Hong Kong on August 23.

The Hong Kong police received a reply from the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau on September 25, stating that the Guangdong Maritime Police Bureau seized a suspected illegal cross-border vessel in the waters under its jurisdiction on that day. After boarding the ship, the coastal police found and arrested 12 Hong Kong residents.

The Yantian Branch of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau announced on Weibo on November 27 that the investigation of 12 people including Deng and Li, who were suspected of organizing others to cross the border, was terminated and transferred to the Yantian District People’s Procuratorate for review and prosecution.
