From next year the city will begin to equip the bus stops with houses with roofs that can be greened.
A corresponding application by Benedikt Nesselhauf (CSU) was unanimously approved in the works committee.
Germering
- First of all, two waiting halls, which are due for renewal in 2021, are to be purchased in this climate- and insect-friendly variant.
Nesselhauf justified the application by stating that the city had made considerable efforts in recent years to improve the city's microclimate and to support biodiversity.
This happened in particular by planting trees on streets and squares.
In the urban area, however, there are a large number of areas such as the roofs of bus stops and other small buildings that have so far been ecologically unused.
These roofs should be greened with robust plants that are winter-proof, can withstand dry periods in summer and therefore require little maintenance.
According to Nesselhauf, this can create an important habitat for insects such as butterflies, bees and bumblebees within the city limits.
The municipal utilities responsible for local public transport asked the manufacturer of the shelters that are now in use and found out that little houses that can be greened are no more expensive than the usual ones.
The greening itself costs around 450 euros.
According to plant manager Roland Schmid, additional costs are incurred for maintenance - the annual maintenance is estimated at around 250 euros.
Gerhard Blahusch (Greens) spoke of a very good idea.
His parliamentary group colleague Sepp Dürr would like to extend the greening of the shelters to their location: “Why is there also paving behind the houses?
One could create a strip of meadow there that has a larger area than the roof.
