In the midst of the controversy and the sanctions against the three rugby players for their racist and discriminatory comments, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens called for "cultural changes" in the training of those who practice this sport.
The official went further and even linked the event to the murder of Fernando Baez Sosa in Villa Gesell, the first days of the year.
"I spoke with the president of the UAR, I am very concerned, but it is not new. The measure may be exemplary and they take it wisely, but
the problem is much deeper
," Lammens warned in statements to Futurock, adding: "The solution it doesn't come with this punishment alone. It deserves a much broader look. "
It was there that the former president of San Lorenzo related the xenophobic and discriminatory messages with the death of Baez Sosa at the exit of a bowling alley in Villa Gesell.
"Let's not forget that we have just started a year with
the murder of a boy at the hands of a group of rugby players
. I do not want to stigmatize, but I do believe that you have to work a lot in the world of rugby," insisted Lammens.
For him, rugby must face "a process similar to the one that
feminism
has built
in terms of cultural changes
."
And he closed: "When you read the tweets, the worst of Argentina comes out, a class hatred and it is to rethink very deep things."
The Argentine Rugby Union announced sanctions for Pablo Matera, Guido Petti and Santiago Socino, in a statement in which it considers what happened "unacceptable".
The UAR announced first on Monday night that it was revoking the captaincy of Pablo Matera and requested the staff to propose to the Board of Directors - which was in charge of disposing of the sanctions - a replacement for that position.
In addition, he suspended Matera, Petti and Socino until their disciplinary situation is finalized, for which a process would be opened by the UAR Disciplinary Commission.
