Want to travel the entire MVV area for a certain price?

It already exists.

However, a new offer is to make public transport in Munich much more attractive.

  • The

    public transport (public transport)

in Munich * is more expensive than in other cities - but to be attractive.

  • One step in this direction is the introduction of the

    365 euro ticket

    .

A press conference was therefore held in the town hall.

  • We present the plans for a boost in the

    mobility transition

    .

    It's about reducing

    car traffic

    .

Munich - A

365-euro annual ticket

for all Munich

residents

- that's what the opposition factions in the city council are calling for.

For the equivalent of one euro a day, every citizen should be able to travel in the entire area of the Munich Transport Association (MVV) - thanks to subsidies from the city!

In order to present their common plan, representatives of the ÖDP, the Left and the CSU met on Tuesday for a joint press conference in the

meeting room of the CSU in the town hall

- a politically rather unusual constellation.

At the table: the parliamentary group leaders Manuel Pretzl (CSU), Stefan Jagel (Die Linke / Die Party) and Tobias Ruff (ÖDP / Free Voters).

And they spoke of a broad alliance that would like to work for the project.

Munich: 365 euro ticket already introduced - and a popular offer

Driving for one euro a day - that is certainly possible.

But not for everyone.

The inexpensive ticket for schoolchildren and trainees has been available since July 1st.

It applies to the

entire MVV area

.

The demand has been correspondingly high since its introduction.

In the first few weeks, the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) already recorded more than 20,000 sales.

The

365-euro ticket should

bring

even more feedback

for everyone in Munich

.

For example, the introduction of the one-euro ticket in Vienna has increased the number of public transport users by 120 percent.

The advantages of such a ticket would therefore be obvious.

Cheap fares encouraged people to leave their cars behind, traffic jams would be avoided, the air would get better and the quality of life would be higher, according to the parliamentary groups' motion.

The 365-euro ticket makes an important contribution to the

mobility transition

and takes ecological, social and economic aspects into account.

Munich: Who bears the costs for the planned 365 euro ticket?

City would subsidize MVG / MVV

The parliamentary groups reckon with costs of around

110 million euros

that the city would have to shoulder every year.

This would virtually subsidize driving for Munich residents and MVG and MVV would not incur any loss of income.

“But we are assuming synergy effects,” says Pretzl.

The demand for the one-euro ticket, for example, will be greater than that for conventional tickets.

"Driving all over Munich for one euro a day - there is no better argument for using public transport," says Pretzl.

The traffic turnaround can only succeed if the

switch to the subway, bus and tram is made

as attractive as possible.

"Public transport is the backbone of mobility in this city."

ÖDP / Free Voters boss Tobias Ruff underlined the benefits for the climate.

“More than half of the fine dust and nitrogen dioxide in Munich can be traced back to motor vehicle traffic.

So that our city remains worth living and we do not slide with even more full throttle in the climate crisis, we need to

promote environmentally friendly transport more

. "The left / The party leader Stefan Jagel was also the social aspect important.

“From our point of view, the ecological turnaround in transport policy must be shaped socially.” Many people are dependent on public transport, including people with little or no income.

Public transport should be affordable for them too.

“People should be able to be just as mobile as everyone else.

That is what we understand by social justice. "

Munich: MVV ticket prices will rise in December 2020

In addition, ticket prices for local public transport will

rise by an average of 2.8 percent

when the

timetable changes on December 13th

.

That was decided by the shareholders' meeting of the Münchner Verkehrsverbund (MVV) (we reported).

The price of the single ticket for Zone M will be increased by 10 cents to 3.40 euros in future.

The price of the strip ticket will be increased from 14 euros to 14.60 euros, the price of the U21 strip ticket from 7.70 euros to 8 euros in the future.

The prices of the day tickets will be increased by between 1.2 percent and 2.3 percent.

The price of the group day ticket for zones M - 5 has been increased from EUR 24.30 to EUR 24.70.

The price of the single day ticket for Zone M rises by 10 cents to 7.90 euros.

According to a study, five new high-speed cycle routes * from Munich to the surrounding area are feasible.

However, the routes would involve major interventions in the transport network.
