A new metal monolith has appeared in a California park just days after another mysterious monument disappeared from a remote location in the Utah desert.
The silver pillar was reported Wednesday afternoon atop the Pine Mountain Loop in Stadium Park in Atascadero, which is almost halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
"We don't know how it got there and it's apparently gone," city deputy director Terrie Banish told CNN.
Atascadero News reported that a group of men took him away early Thursday.

Banish said the city does not plan to investigate the monument or its disappearance, but they will remove the rebar, or reinforcing rod, that was used to secure it to the ground because they don't want anyone to be hurt.
The three-sided metal monument became a social media sensation during the brief time it was in place.
Michelle Gilsdorf read about the monolith's appearance on a community Facebook page and decided to check it out for herself.

She told CNN that it took her about 30 minutes to walk to the object.
"I know the trail very well, it's a semi-moderate hike, my Fitbit, from the trailhead, on Capistrano Avenue, was 0.81 miles from the top the way we hiked," Gilsdorf said.
"I saw a part at the beginning of the trail, so I knew it was not a joke that there was something there."
Banish said the monolith was 3-3.5 meters tall and weighed about 90 kilograms.
"Nobody saw when it was installed," he said, even though the path is quite popular.
Object found in Utah: monolith or piece of art?
This is the latest mysterious object to appear in recent weeks, but it is unknown if they are related.
Experts have mostly ruled out aliens, if only because UFOs probably wouldn't want to have anything to do with Earth in 2020.
The first was discovered last month in Utah by a team counting bighorn sheep from a helicopter.
The mystery deepened last week when the Utah Bureau of Land Management reported that the monolith was missing.
A Colorado photographer told CNN he saw four people take him down and carry him out of the area.
That group later announced on social media that they removed the monolith.
