Daniel Grib returned from the First Lebanon War with a crushed soul, but found vocation and healing in providing support to the needy.

As part of an association he founded, "Skin from Your Sleep," he helped many families over the years, and did not stop for a moment from the enterprise of his life - an enterprise of daily grace.

Grib, a resident of Elad, continued this activity until his death last Saturday, at the age of 64.

Daniel Grib was born 64 years ago in Zichron Yaacov, one of five children of his parents, Pinchas and Hannah, who immigrated to Israel from Turkey.

When he was five, the family moved to Holon.

When he graduated, Daniel enlisted in the Armored Corps as a fighter in a tank crew, and as such also participated in the First Lebanon War, which shook his life.

In one of the battles he was ambushed by his comrades in the Syrian army, and many of his comrades were killed and wounded.

He too was wounded in battle, but the casualty was particularly severe.

Grebe found it difficult to recover from what he experienced in that battle, but found solace in helping others.

He told his close friend, Arik Danon, that one day a therapist who accompanied him at the time offered to support the needy.

Grebe adopted the advice and began collecting supplies for four needy families, including a Holocaust survivor.

Every week they would come to the balcony of his apartment in the Tel Giborim neighborhood and receive the help he could give.

Danon was exposed to Grebe's humble enterprise of grace, and after seeing more and more distress in their neighborhood, they decided together to expand it.

They rented a warehouse in which we stored the groceries they had received from various donors and began operating from there, and at the same time also opened a tavern.

The association was called "Skin from Your Sleep."

Over the years the association has expanded its operations, and the circle of supporters has grown.

Regular assistance to hundreds of families

Daniel began to feel better over the years, and at the age of 30 he met Ronit, and the two married.

Shortly before that he repented.

Over time, they had seven children, and following the change in their lifestyles, the two decided 16 years ago to move to Elad.

Michael Ezra, who is married to Bat-Chen, Grib's daughter, said that "initially Daniel decided to open another small branch in Elad in Holon, but over time the branch grew, and Daniel devoted himself more and more to the organization."

The association, which works in cooperation with the "Let" association and receives the support of various factories and companies, distributes about 200 aid packages every two weeks, and during the holidays distributes about 800 boxes of food, cleaning and hygiene products.

"As the distress deepened, Daniel was always available to help."

"The association was Daniel - and Daniel was the association," Danon said.

"All the donations we receive are due to him. The heart of the people just opened up to him. He was just a person who is all giving, always with a smile and a sense of humor and with a heart open to the whole world. From morning to evening he was completely devoted to the organization. And all his energy has been channeled to help those who need support and assistance. "

The Elad municipality told of a close collaboration with Grib and his charity.

Livnat Lebenstein, director of the welfare department in the Elad municipality, also said that Greve offered his help all the time.

"He was a special person who out of the difficulty he was facing, he steered his life to help people."

Uri, a social worker at the municipality, described similar things.

"In many inquiries that came to us, we were helped by Daniel and his association. He was a rare person, his heart was always open to everyone. The organization he founded is a mainstay in Elad."

Deep-hearted giving

In the last year, since the outbreak of the corona plague, the association has deepened and expanded its work, and Daniel has devoted even more of his time and energy to it.

"Throughout the drama of the first Corona wave, as the distress deepened, Daniel was always available at any time to provide help," Lebenstein said, "I would turn to him for urgent help and he would immediately help."

For example, Lebenstein said that shortly before the last Passover eve, a resident urgently approached her and said that in the face of medical treatment his brother and wife had encountered, the two got off their property and could not afford to buy food for the holiday.

"I called Daniel and within a short time an abundance of boxes of products and shopping vouchers arrived at the couple's house, just a moment before the holiday," she said.

"Extraordinary sensitivity."

"The circle of the needy grew greatly during the Corona crisis and the assistance of Daniel's association became a significant thing for us," Uri said, emphasizing Greve's commitment to his work.

"We always responded positively to every request and worked non-stop, around the clock. Despite the great intensity, he had an extraordinary ability to listen and he always maintained joy. These qualities also helped him raise resources for the organization. He took on a life's work that required hard work. Very, and he did it admirably. "

Those close to Grib were also partners in this admiration.

Danon noted that "Daniel did the job with extraordinary sensitivity," and Ezra added that "in every product box he gave he also put something from his heart in the box. His giving was from the bottom of his heart."

"We will continue on his way, but Daniel will have no replacement."

About three weeks ago, Grebe began to feel unwell, and medical tests revealed that he had cancer, which had already spread through his body.

As a result, he passed away a week ago.

Before his death, he asked those around him that the association continue to operate.

His son-in-law, Ezra, promised that "his life's work will continue as usual and even more so. We will keep his request and the activity will continue."

"Something of me died with Daniel's death," Danon praised him.

"We will continue on his way, but Daniel will not have a replacement. It will be very difficult to do what he did."
