Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD) expects an increase in domestic violence on Christmas days in the Corona shutdown.

At the time of the first shutdown, the numbers had risen by about 25 percent compared to 2019, "it was noticeable on the Easter holidays," Giffey told the newspapers of the Funke media group on Saturday.

"I'm afraid we'll see that again at Christmas."

The “violence against women” helpline is currently “up to 480 consultations a week on domestic violence - that's slightly less than in spring,” the minister told the newspapers.

They assume, however, that there is “a significantly larger dark field”.

In contrast to the first restrictions in spring, schools and daycare centers are currently open.
