Reducing tariffs, simplifying regulation and lowering the cost of living - these are the main goals in the bill "Israel Free Trade Zone", which is published for the first time in "Israel Today".

The proposal, which will be tabled in the coming days by MK Ariel Kellner (Likud) and formulated in cooperation with the organization "Our Interest", seeks to reduce the customs rate on each customs item to a maximum of 8%, and to eliminate barriers to entry of regulatory requirements. Redundancy.

"This is a law that puts the 'transparent' at the center, changes the Israeli economy and liberates it for the benefit of the ordinary citizen, who is not represented by interest groups," MK Kellner tells Israel Today. "Removing import barriers and the new customs policy will reduce the price The products, and especially will discount the basic products.

This will ease the burden on all citizens and especially on the weaker sections.

This policy, in the end, will also streamline local production and increase the wages of its workers. "

The law defines Israel's economic policy as a free trade country by relying on international standards as much as possible and reducing tariffs.

Under the proposed law, the customs policy will be changed and calculated using a proportional rate from the price of imports for all products, according to the effective customs as of the date of publication of the law in Reshumot.

Thereafter, tariffs will be gradually reduced by 10% each year until the customs rate for each customs item is at most 8%.

For comparison, a report by the Ministry of Finance stated that the tariff rate on agricultural products in Israel could rise to hundreds of percent. According to the proposal, a tariff higher than 8% will only be possible by a government decision, brought by the Minister of Finance and the Minister in charge of approval The government and then to the Knesset Finance Committee.

Elad Malka, CEO of "Our Interest", which is a partner in drafting the bill, said: "The cost of living in Israel and low labor productivity harm the standard of living of all of us.

This law is an opportunity for Israel to become an advanced economy and an integral part of the global economy. "
