The Colombian singer, who has a Latin Grammy, shares complicities with Pablo Alborán and Dani Martín and collaborates with Shakira

Many will not be familiar with the name Camilo Echeverry (Medellín, Colombia, 1994), better known artistically by his first name.

But in recent weeks you may have seen him on television shows or heard his songs on the radio, as he adds one success after another, which has recently led him to win his first Latin Grammy.

He is the young Colombian with a Dalí mustache who lately appears on the social networks of interpreters like Dani Martín and Pablo Alborán and who a few days ago fulfilled his dream of stepping on the set of

El hormiguero

: “For Latin artists it is something very important.

Many years ago I saw that the artists I admired were there.

So now being the one who was there was a very nice experience ”, recalls the singer.

On Monday, just a few hours to get on a plane and return to Miami, the author of songs like

spoke with EL PAÍS at the close of a week of promotion full of work.

“Since I was little I dreamed that my music had a place in Spain.

And it is happening now.

People are getting to know my music, they are receiving it, they are enjoying it.

All this time of pandemic, my music has been like a little flag of joy for many people here in Spain and I see that as a gigantic privilege ”, he says excitedly.

His childhood has always been full of Spanish culture thanks to his parents, Lía and Eugenio, since in their home it was common to listen to Paco de Lucía, Camarón de la Isla and Tomatito, among other flamenco artists.

"The idea that my parents have of Spain fell in love with me since I was a child and now coming here to give reality to what used to be like fabulous in my head was always a tremendous illusion", he explains with a deep feeling of admiration.

Despite the fascination they feel for the Mediterranean country, his parents have never traveled to Spain.

He really wanted them to accompany him on his professional adventure this year, but he has finally been cautious about the health situation.

However, he warns: "Next year, when everything changes, I do want them to come here and eat where I have eaten, to drink the wine that I have drunk ...".

The revelation star wants to share with them all the experiences she is discovering as she makes her way in other countries.

It is precisely on this path that he has a team of which he is very proud — when he talks about his work it is usual that he does it in the first person plural — and some colleagues from the industry who constantly support him, such as Dani Martín.

Camilo and the former member of El canto del loco presented

Avioncito de papel

in October

,

a song that they composed a couple of years ago in the house that the Spanish artist owns in Zahara de los Atunes (Cádiz).

Those days off the coast were filled with music, long talks and a lot of wine, something that he has mentioned a lot in his last interviews.

“The other day Dani told me: 'Hey, you're making me look like a drunk,” he says, laughing and clarifies that his friend has taught him to appreciate this drink more.

“I love Spanish wine.

The Valbuena de Vega Sicilia has a very important and creative place in my heart ”, he says about this winery whose price does not go below 100 euros a bottle.

In a few years, the bond between Camilo and Dani Martín has been so strong that the latter was even part of the bridal party at the wedding of the Colombian interpreter with the Venezuelan singer and actress Evaluna Montaner.

The couple married in February, went on their honeymoon, and soon after began their confinement.

A confinement that they shared with her family, full of well-known singers in Latin America such as her father, Ricardo Montaner.

For Camilo, they are not just his in-laws and brothers-in-law, they are friends and co-workers.

He is grateful to have spent more time with them and especially with his wife, since 2020 was initially complicated: “When we planned our calendars they were painted for us to get married in February and in March I would go on tour and she would record a Serie.

We went to see each other only a couple of times a year ”.

In the end the pandemic has been "like an extended honeymoon."

Listening to the songs of

is to know his feelings towards his wife, as she is his main inspiration for music.

"She is a fundamental piece in my personal and artistic life", says the singer who is not afraid to publicly expose her most intimate side: "I show my relationship as my most beautiful treasure.

I have no other way of making songs if it is not from honesty and from the naked.

Evaluna Montaner has totally changed her life to the point that now she dreams of being a father, but at the moment their schedules do not give them time to start a family.

These days she is in Bogotá recording a series and he has crossed the Atlantic to promote the album that he published in April,

For the first time

, and to advance part of the one that will be released at the beginning of next year.

The separation after so many months together has not been easy for him, but this trip to Spain brings back the memory of having met Pablo Alboran in person.

Without seeing each other physically, they both joined their voices to present a new version of the song

El misma aire

, by the Colombian singer,

in the summer

, and soon they went from mutual admiration to friendship.

"On this trip I was able to meet and embrace him," says Camilo, adding: "He was like a couple of brothers who hadn't seen each other for a long time."

The artist also rubs shoulders with his countrywoman Shakira: "I admire her a lot not only as an artist, but also as a Colombian."

He would have loved to have her by his side when he won the Grammy last month, believing that

success

is largely due to the

he recorded with Shakira.

And showing off the humility that characterizes him and grateful to everyone who supports him in his career, he reveals: "When we were on our way to the Grammys I let him know: 'If we win it, I want you to know that it is yours too because you you opened the door for me and you were generous with me ”.
