Millions of college students in America can breathe a sigh of relief for at least another month as the federal government has decided to extend
the suspension of federal loan payments until the end of January
.
The moratorium was imposed in the face of the economic crisis caused by the pandemic in the relief package approved in March and had already been extended in August until the end of 2020.
The measure allows those who asked for money at the federal level to study to
defer payments without financial penalty
.
University students who decide to continue paying their fees benefit from
an interest rate of 0%

In announcing the extension, the Secretary of Education of the United States,
Betsy DeVos, chided Congress for not acting sooner
and approving a new economic stimulus package, whose negotiations were stalled for months.
Lawmakers are now preparing to revise a $ 908 billion bipartisan plan with a host of grants, but no checks, for American families.
De Vos is not in favor of the president-elect who solves the situation.
"Congress, not the Executive Branch, is in charge of student loan policy," he emphasized in a statement.
