In the video: How the Golden Character and the "Shield of Fathers and Mothers" program enable a routine life in sheltered housing (Walla! NEWS Studio)

During the Corona period the routine life of all of us changed and the senior citizens in the community are usually the ones who felt this in the most dramatic way.

So how do you maintain quality of life in sheltered housing, including social activities, precisely during this period?

As part of the struggle in Corona, a national program was established to protect the residents of third-age institutions called "Magen Avot VeAmotos."

The golden sign is in fact agreements between the tenants and managers in the sheltered housing, and the regulation, in everything related to the conduct during this period, in order to enable the routine life of the tenants, along with guarding and protecting them.

In order to get to know the program in depth, Prof. Nimrod Maimon, the program's head of the Ministry of Health, came to the studio;

Shlomi Bar-Lev, who is in charge of sheltered housing in the Ministry of Labor and Welfare and the initiator of the Golden Badge;

Leah Schatz, chairman of the Sheltered Housing Tenants Association; and Hagit Pinto, director of Ahuzat Tzahala.

Shlomi, what is the golden sign?

"It's a projection of the purple character. Why is it golden? Because the third age is the golden age so I thought it would be a suitable name for this program. But I was just the winner behind the scenes. The whole team sitting here was responsible for that. Its application in the field. We published it on September 17 and during the period of closure we heard almost no claim, complaint or appeal from the families or tenants, because life in the sheltered housing was conducted routinely, which we could not manage outside. I think this is one of the great successes in housing during this period. It was minimal and I wish for all of us that this would be the situation outside as well. "

What are the main points of the golden character?

"Take the infrastructure of the house and use it. All the tenants, employees and managers live in a certain capsule and have community and social responsibility. They take the application of this matter upon themselves, including the issue of visits. Most tenants understood what needs to be done, in conjunction with excellent house management "Overall, I think the state can learn from what is happening in sheltered housing."

Prof. Maimon, what is in the "Shield of Fathers and Mothers" program?

"The program was established in April and speaks to the fact that adults are very high on priorities and the state does not allow them to be harmed. The establishment of the program expresses the state statement - we want to protect the elderly from the corona because they are important to us all and we saw the results of our actions. Home protection system, based on a lot of testing. Sheltered housing people have a very clear opinion of what should happen, during an epidemic and also in routine. They decide what is good for them and what is not and we give them the freedom. The social groups in sheltered housing are independent and opinionated and know how to defend themselves "And to create a good life in the community. In the second wave, they created a protected capsule, unrelated to what was happening outside."

This special device allows you to maintain a routine during an unconventional period.

Are there representatives from the sheltered housing who want to know what is allowed and forbidden?

What is bothering them?

"Yes, there are a lot of questions. It turns out that it is impossible to give a standard, no matter how detailed, an answer to the variety of personal activities, because the structure of the houses is different from each other and the populations in them are different. You can learn how to live in the shadow of the plague and together with the plague and manage them properly, through a lot of testing and social connections, while keeping the rules. They showed that this can be done. We must understand that the plague affects the elderly and we need to look at ourselves as a society and where we prioritize and change "The diskette. They are the source of wisdom and experience and we must not leave them aside. We must use their abilities to improve Israeli society. The corona harms them, but it must be used as a lever for society."

Leah, did this need for self-defense actually arise from the territory, from the tenants?

"We learned from the experience and immediately after the first closure I decided I wanted to collect all the experience that had accumulated. We asked for the opinion of all members of the association, we built a document and sent it to Shlomi. I asked him for the principals' input and wanted us to create something together. But we knew we had to be prepared for another crisis. Experience has shown that we know how to take care of ourselves. People go to meet family and stay in the open air and the fact that we are clean. 'Fathers and mothers' protector' took care of the workers, because we saw it from there in many cases. Towards the others, but we went through the second closure in the pool and the gym. "

Hagit, what does the agenda really look like on the ground?

"It looks like any agenda, without Corona. Life goes on and everything is open according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and maintaining full protection. This is not the first closure, we did not know what to do. Today we understand and calmer and cooperation with tenants helped. The adults know what they want , So everything is done in cooperation with the tenants' representative.The sheltered housing is the only place where life goes on.Even people who have not played sports have started.The physical fitness of the tenants is excellent today.Everything is going just right and unfortunately, it does not happen to the elderly outside the sheltered housing. We have set ourselves the flag not to reach a state of loneliness, because loneliness is more dangerous than the corona. "

In the second part of the edition, our correspondent Raanan Baranowski set out to examine how the routine in sheltered housing is conducted during the Corona period. "There is no evening without a plan," said

Nurit Shahal

, a resident of Dor Carmel. "The best lecturers gave lectures in zoom. We go with masks, disinfect hands and in the dining room everyone has their place, so awareness has gone up and right now everything is fine. I am very guarded."

Haim Bar-Or,

also from the Carmel section: "The staff here has worked exceptionally well since the beginning of the Corona. They did tests and you saw people investing everything. The people in charge are here from morning to evening."

Roni Ben Ami

from Juliana said: "In these times we need to think about all the solutions, how to divide us into groups, to continue the entertainment in the evening, with music and lectures. But we find a solution for everything."

Ada Beer

from Beit Shalom concludes: "We usually sit after dinner in a circle, at a distance from each other, with masks and talking. Trying to solve the problems of the world and then going up to the rooms in a better mood. I did not have it at home. That's why I came here." .
