The state government around Markus Söder prohibits the opening of the ski areas.
Bavarian mayors are calling for a rethink in corona policy.
In
Bavaria
, strict corona rules apply over Christmas and New Year's Eve *.
Ski areas
are therefore not allowed to open.
Mayors from the Allgäu
fear dire consequences for the tourism industry and send a
fire letter to Angela Merkel, Horst Seehofer, Markus Söder and Hubert Aiwanger
.
Here you will find the
basic facts about the coronavirus
* and the corona news from Germany.
We also offer you
the current case numbers in Bavaria
on a map
.
The following recommendations for corona protective measures are currently available.
Munich -
German winter sports
enthusiasts have to be prepared for a dreary winter.
The
Bavarian ski areas
are closed.
And according to the wishes of the
Bavarian state government, they
should stay that way for the time being.
After the gastronomy,
another industry is
now
worried
about its existence
in the Corona * crisis
.
The
ski ban
does not only affect the lift operators.
The
mayors of the places affected
forecast
severe effects on the entire tourism industry

Coronavirus: Are ski areas in Bavaria closed?
Mayor warn - "Fatal tourism as well as economically"
"A
delayed start to the winter season
or even a loss of income during the Christmas holidays would be
fatal for tourism as well as economically
and would put one or the other company on the verge of economic existence," they fear severe consequences if
winter tourism were to start Winter holidays will not be possible
.
The current
extension of the lockdown "light"
provides for this.
"A
wave of cancellations of booked winter holidays
threatens and endangers further livelihoods," warn the Oberallgäuer.
They expressly ask for the
ski areas
to be opened for the Christmas holidays 2020. A hygiene concept had already been developed in summer and has proven itself.
Winter 2020: Skiing despite Corona - Austria does not want to be influenced by Germany
A look at
Austria
,
which is not far away,
is likely to increase the frustration of hoteliers and lift operators.
The Kurz government does
not want to
make
winter sports completely impossible
and does not want to be unsettled by neighboring Germany.
“We certainly wo
n't
let
another country dictate
when to open something”, Tourism Minister
Elisabeth Köstinger
(ÖVP) told Bayerischer Rundfunk, “we would never suggest that
schools
in Germany,
for example, should be closed should or hairdressers. "
The
winter tourism
should now not to
"scapegoat" the corona crisis
in Austria.
In addition, the
year 2020 and the lockdown demanded a lot from people
.
Now many simply want to relax again, “get out of the city” and do sports. ”However, foreign tourists will probably stay away from Austria this winter.
Holidays can only be taken under strict entry and quarantine rules (see video above).

Coronavirus in winter 2020: ski areas in Bavaria closed - fire letter from the mayor in full
"Dear Chancellor Merkel, Dear Minister of the Interior Seehofer, Dear Prime Minister Söder, Dear Minister of State Aiwanger,
We as the Oberallgäu mayor and district administrator also join the many open letters that you have received from our region and want to share our thoughts, assessments and fears on the subject of "closure of the ski areas" with you.
From the most recent agreements between the federal government and the federal states that have been published so far, we are also considering a solution coordinated in the European Alpine region to open up the ski areas at a later date.
We have great respect for the sensitivity that you bring into the multitude of considerations in your responsibility before the federal and state governments decide which branches of industry have to cope with which restrictions for the benefit of the overriding common good and the best possible protection of the population.
Snow sports in general, but especially alpine winter sports in the ski areas in the Bavarian Alps as well as in the neighboring Austrian winter sports centers, are a very important economic factor and a decisive pillar in the tourist offer in winter as a whole, in the Oberallgäu district with 46 ski areas.
Especially the mountain railways and ski lift operators, as well as the hotel, catering and rental companies for holiday apartments already have practiced, proven hygiene concepts from the summer season that are adapted to the requirements of winter, which can be both adhered to and monitored. In order to guarantee this, these companies have long since invested and have made significant advance payments, knowing that the upcoming winter season is not designed for full utilization, but rather focuses on the best possible protection and accountability.
A delayed start to the winter season or even a loss of income during the Christmas holidays would be fatal for tourism as well as economically and put one or the other company on the brink of economic existence.
We therefore ask you, as the mayor and district administrator of Bavarian tourist resorts with significant snow sports relevance and an existential mainstay in alpine winter sports, not to deprive the ski areas as a whole, as well as their cable cars, ski lifts, hotels, restaurants and accommodation operators.
If the winter sports resorts do not have this offer beginning with the Christmas holidays at the latest, this will have an impact on the entire accommodation industry. A wave of cancellation of booked winter holidays threatens and endangers further livelihoods.
Please consider our argumentation and let the ski areas open in winter 2020/2021 with the start of the 2020 Christmas holidays.
Thank you very much.
