Another well-known business has left Starnberg: After more than 20 years in the district town, the Bike It bike shop is moving to Feldafing.

The reason for this: the previous location at Bahnhofstrasse 1 is being redeveloped.

That's why the "Pizza Drive" is already closed.

He too has already found a new domicile.

Starnberg

- He would have liked to stay in Starnberg.

Frank Sterzenbach (55) makes no secret of this.

He founded his bike shop Bike It in Starnberg in 1999, at that time still on Perchastraße.

“And I have a lot of customers in Starnberg,” he says.

But after his lease at Bahnhofstrasse 1 was not renewed at the end of the year and he started looking for a new property, he came to the conclusion relatively quickly: "It will be difficult to find something suitable in Starnberg."

In an interview with Starnberger Merkur, Sterzenbach says there is almost nothing to be had for less than 20 euros per square meter.

But since he needed a certain floor space for his business, he decided to move.

“I don't feel like working just for rent,” he says.

Last Monday he handed over the rooms on Bahnhofstrasse to the landlord.

From December 8th, Bike It can be found at Bahnhofstrasse 8 in Feldafing.

The building there has belonged to Sterzenbach for several years, and the commercial unit in it was rented to a real estate agency for a long time.

The 55-year-old is currently converting so that around 90 square meters will be available to him in the future - including the workshop, which will no longer be in the shop, but in the adjacent garage.

Overall, that's a little less space than in Starnberg.

Until the excavators start rolling, there should be space for artists, artisans and similar providers.

The move from the district town to a small community is difficult, but also offers opportunities, says Sterzenbach.

On the one hand, he has around 90 percent regular customers that he counts on.

On the other hand, he could now squint in the direction of Tutzing and thus enlarge his catchment area.

In any case, nothing will change in the range - high-quality bikes from the Specialized and Cube brands.

And in the end he can of course lower his costs in Feldafing.

Bike It is not the only company that has to leave Bahnhofstrasse 1 in Starnberg.

The "Pizza Drive" has also already closed.

According to its own information, it will open in two months at Maximilianstrasse 2c.

And what will become of the area that is directly adjacent to the museum underpass?

The Starnberg office Ehret und Klein has been commissioned with the planning, as its spokeswoman Kerstin Kruppok confirms to Starnberg Merkur.

It will result in a new building with mixed use, i.e. residential and commercial, says Kruppok.

“There would also be a café there.” She doesn't give any further details, just this: “The planning is progressing.

We want to present them to the city soon. ”According to spokeswoman Lena Choi, there are no plans yet in the town hall.

Until the new building starts, those responsible at Ehret und Klein do not want to leave the area fallow all the time.

“We are currently looking for an interim solution,” says Kruppok.

That could have been a Christmas tree sale, for example, which ultimately didn't materialize.

You could also imagine giving artists or artisans an opportunity to present themselves there.

"We want to create a space for people who normally can hardly afford that," says the spokeswoman.

An offer with a charitable character is also desirable.

The aim is also to support retailers in downtown Starnberg.
