2020-12-08T23:19:37.602Z

E-mails bearing the logo of the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP) were sent to companies to obtain information from them.

In a press release published on Tuesday, Bercy calls on companies to be vigilant in the face of attempted scams with theft of the identity of the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP).

Fraudsters have in fact recently sent particularly misleading letters and electronic messages to several companies: the logos of the DGFiP and of the Ministry of Action and Public Accounts are included, the identity of agents of the General Inspectorate of Finance. currently in office is spoofed, including their signatures.

Citing articles from the book of tax procedures and the general tax code, these fraudsters ask companies to send them in a few days information on unpaid invoices by their main customers who usually pay by bank transfer.

The goal of this fraudulent maneuver?

Once the information is obtained, the scammers have in their possession the exact amounts of the invoices still due.

The latter can then attempt to pass themselves off, this time, for the targeted companies and thus demand from their customers the payment of said invoices to a new bank account.

Bercy recommends that companies that receive this type of message be "

very vigilant

", checking in particular for spelling errors as well as the email address which may be very similar but different from that of the tax authorities.

These fraudulent practices, which are not new,

"are not limited to the tax administration but they affect other sectors such as banks, insurance, or even energy distributors

", warns the ministry more broadly.
