The Ministry of Health recommends setting up a multi-professional team before setting up the waste incineration facility in Mishor Adumim.

According to the ministry, the possible impact of such a facility on public health should be examined and appropriate guidelines for environmental review formulated to assess "health risks in the immediate population".

The facility, which is planned to be built at the "Good Samaritan" site, is supposed to absorb waste and generate electricity.

However, as reported in Walla!

NEWS is promoted based on an old plan from 2005, which did not include landfill space.

Last July, residents of the Ma'ale Adumim area petitioned against the plan, saying it was a "snatch."

The state argued that the petition should be rejected outright because an application for a permit for the facility had not yet been submitted, and a hearing on the petition was scheduled for next January.

But according to residents, the state continues to promote the facility, while three other crematoria across the country have been frozen by the Ministry of Environmental Protection with the entry of Minister Gila Gamliel into office.

Among other things, he addressed the head of the Benjamin Israel Council, Ganz to the Ministry of Health.

The reply letter sent recently by the director of the Ministry of Health's Department of Environmental Epidemiology, Dr. Isabella Karkis, stated that the ministry supports renewable energy sources, but "in the opinion of the Ministry of Health, an environmental impact survey should include evaluations of waste materials." , potentially dangerous substances.

Krkis added in the letter, a copy of which was also sent to the ministry of the environment that "this information will allow evaluation of the level of exposure of the population living in the local jurisdiction. most of the groups of substances listed here include carcinogens, substances that cause respiratory problems, development issues The fetus and diabetes. The residents' petition against the construction of the facility states that it "has a tremendous environmental impact. Without amending the plan, without examining alternatives and without giving the public the right to file objections will deprive the public of its basic right to maintain legitimate and vital interests."

The Supreme Plan Council of the Civil Administration approved in 2005 a plan to establish a waste treatment park at the "Good Samaritan" site.

The plan included landfill space, but it was never established.

In 2017, the government approved a decision to build a waste recovery facility on the site.

Since then, it has been promoted, and a preliminary selection procedure has been published for an international tender for the planning, financing, construction and operation of the facility, but without a suitable detailed plan that will allow the public to submit objections in accordance with the planning procedure.

Green organizations and residents from the area have begun a struggle against promoting the construction of the facility on the grounds that it is a snatch.

The state rejected the opponents' claims and a letter sent in May stated that the existing plan allows for the construction of the crematorium.

The Ministry of Finance also clarified that the planning and construction process is in progress and that its delay will cause "heavy damage".

"There are studies around the world on the far-reaching effects on morbidity and even mortality," a protest against the facility

Yael Israel, a resident of Kfar Adumim and a leader of the struggle, says that "no one has examined what the effects will be on the residents, so to tell us that it will be completely safe is unlikely."

She notes that at a distance of one kilometer from the planned facility there is an educational complex and at a distance of two kilometers are residences, so the health impact should be examined.

"Certainly when there are studies in the world about far-reaching effects on morbidity and even mortality. Especially in children, birth defects, abortions. Really shocking. They say to close Haifa Bay with one hand, but to open Red Bay here. It is a very polluting industry."

The Ministry of Environmental Protection did not respond.
