Besançon: two individuals arrested for the theft of 2.5 tons of manhole covers

Two individuals just over 18 are suspected of having stolen several dozen manhole covers in different municipalities of the Bisontine agglomeration, we learned this Wednesday, December 9, according to information from France Bleu

The young thieves were arrested by the Doubs gendarmes on Tuesday.

The latter quickly admitted being responsible for the mysterious disappearances of cast iron plates in the Besançon sector for several weeks.

During a search carried out at the home of one of the suspects, the gendarmes got their hands on no less than 2.5 tons of manhole covers, telephone operators or EDF specifies

Plates stolen between November 23 and December 3 in a dozen municipalities.

According to our colleagues from the Republican East, an 11-year-old girl had just fallen into a hole on a sidewalk in Montfaucon, a town located about ten kilometers from Besançon, because of a missing plate last Friday.
