The young thieves were arrested by the Doubs gendarmes on Tuesday.
The latter quickly admitted being responsible for the mysterious disappearances of cast iron plates in the Besançon sector for several weeks.
During a search carried out at the home of one of the suspects, the gendarmes got their hands on no less than 2.5 tons of manhole covers, telephone operators or EDF specifies

According to our colleagues from the Republican East, an 11-year-old girl had just fallen into a hole on a sidewalk in Montfaucon, a town located about ten kilometers from Besançon, because of a missing plate last Friday.
Placed in police custody, the two accused - who are also already known to justice - should be prosecuted for theft and endangering the lives of others.
