The Brazilian artist Jorge Silva Roriz paints a personalized protective mask in his home in Rio

The day he became himself again, Jorge Silva Roriz was standing outside on his terrace at the small wooden table that is his studio, putting a pencil sketch of the lower half of his face on a self-sewn, white mouth and nose mask.
Roriz pressed through the contours with a pencil, tied the piece of fabric around a model's head, picked up his palette and began to paint.
His brown skin, the deep furrows next to his nostrils, the full lips, the gray stubble of his beard, until that damned part no longer covered him, but miraculously completed him.
When he later stood in front of the mirror, it seemed like magic, says Roriz.
He tells of his self-experiment, which was now six months ago, in which he made the first of his individualized masks, which made him famous not only here in the old port district of Rio de Janeiro.
Roriz wears that mask, and when he speaks you actually look him in the face, only his mouth doesn't move.
