Covid-19 vaccine: "under the supervision of a doctor" initially, recommends the HAS

2020-12-15T15:52:57.661Z

The European Medicines Agency will meet on December 21 to decide on the marketing of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.

Vaccination against Covid-19 should be done "as

much as possible under the supervision of a doctor

" at the start of the vaccination campaign, recommends the High Authority for Health (HAS) on Tuesday, December 15.

"

In the first phases of the campaign, the HAS recommends that the vaccination be done as much as possible under the supervision of a doctor, relying on nurses working in accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad)

”, She indicates in a press release.

"

Then, when the number of doses and the type of vaccines will make it possible to diversify the places of vaccination, an extension of the vaccination skills to all nurses and pharmacists in particular could be considered

", adds the HAS, in the final version of its opinion on "

the principles which should govern the organization of the vaccination campaign and its launch

".

The health authority had also already pronounced against compulsory vaccination and for it to be done on "

compulsory medical prescription

".

It also insists on "

the need to provide clear and transparent information

", which takes "

into account the many uncertainties which will be gradually removed

", seeing in it "

the key to the confidence of all the public in vaccines

".

"

This implies in particular making public the scientific data available on the conditions of manufacture, efficacy and safety of vaccines, before but also after their placing on the market

", she adds.

The HAS had published a provisional version of these recommendations in early November, before submitting them to a "

public consultation

" until November 30.

The organization received 86 contributions from players in the field of vaccination (health professionals, patient associations, learned societies, etc.), who “

enriched

” its recommendations.

With the exception of a few contributions that disagree with the recommendations, or even with the vaccination against Covid-19, the opinions collected are largely positive and support the recommendations proposed,

” underlines the HAS.

The contributions received approve in particular the emphasis placed on the importance of "

transparent, accessible and responsive communication

" and "

that of not establishing a vaccination obligation, so as not to fuel potential reluctance

".

The European Medicines Agency announced on Tuesday that it would meet on December 21 to decide on the marketing application for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

In the event of a positive opinion, it will then be up to the European Commission to give the green light to the vaccine, which would then become the first vaccine against Covid-19 marketed in the European Union.
