Italy recorded 14,844 new infections with the new Coronavirus during the past twenty-four hours, bringing the total number of infections recorded in the country to one million and 8,70576 cases.
Reuters quoted the Italian Ministry of Health as saying that the total number of deaths from the virus reached 65,857 deaths, after 846 new deaths were recorded during the past 24 hours.
The ministry added that 162,880 tests were conducted to detect Corona virus.
In a related context, Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza stressed the importance of imposing more stringent restrictions than those announced earlier during the Christmas holidays to avoid a possible third wave of Corona virus in mid-January.
In turn, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stressed in an interview with the newspaper (La Stampa) the need to impose more restrictive measures on the movement of citizens during the Christmas holidays to contain the epidemic of the new Corona virus, indicating that a plan for birthdays has been prepared in light of the proposals of the committee concerned with dealing with the virus .
At the beginning of this month, the Italian government announced measures that include travel bans between regions, and the ban extends to travel between provinces and municipalities on the 25 and 26 of December and the first day of the new year, with the exception of conditions related to work and health.
