The new American President Joe Biden has urged incumbent Donald Trump to admit his electoral defeat.

On Monday evening the electorate had confirmed Biden's election as President of the United States - 306 voted for Biden, Trump elected 232 voters.

That reflects the result in the states, there were no deviants.

The threshold for an election victory is 270 votes.

In 2016 Trump was elected with 306 votes, at the time he called it a "landslide victory".

Biden, 78, appealed to him: "Those numbers represented a clear victory back then, and I respectfully suggest that they do so now," Biden said.

Less than six weeks after the election, the 538 voters in the 50 US states and in the capital district of Washington met on Monday.

You voted on behalf of the people because the president is elected indirectly in the USA.

In the vast majority of states, the election winner gets all the votes of the local electorate.

"Democracy won this battle for the soul of America," Biden said.

“The flame of democracy was kindled in this nation a long time ago.

And we now know that nothing - not even a pandemic or abuse of power - can extinguish that flame. "

Trump, 74, continues to refuse to acknowledge his defeat.

He sees himself robbed of his victory by electoral fraud.

Neither Trump nor his lawyers have provided evidence of this.

Dozens of lawsuits have been dismissed, the last one from the state of Texas.

The election results will be officially announced on January 6th in Congress in Washington.

Biden is due to be sworn in on January 20th.

On that day, Trump's constitutional term ends automatically, even if he does not admit defeat by then
