" on this subject with the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and the president of the Musée d'Orsay, Laurence des Cars.
Several politicians, as well as the son of the former head of state, Louis, have asked that the name of Giscard d'Estaing be added to that of the Musée d'Orsay, in tribute to this personality who died on December 2.
The decision to transform the former Orsay station into a museum dedicated to the art of the second half of the 19th century was taken in October 1977, at the initiative of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.
The museum opened its doors to the public on December 9, 1986. The Musée de l'Orangerie, located in the Tuileries Garden, was attached to it in 2010.
