At seven and a half months, little Mattia conquers the front pages of the newspapers.

A photo taken in May in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of the "San Pietro Clinics" of the University Hospital of Sassari ended up in the newspaper "L'Eco di Bergamo" on newsstands today.

The shot dates back to May 7 and was chosen by the newspaper as the symbolic image of this year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the photo the newborn Mattia Colombino, just born, clings to the surgical mask of the midwife Gianfranca Fiori, who holds him in her arms after assisting his mother in the delivery room.

The image published on vistanet.it was found by the director of the Eco di Bergamo, Alberto Ceresoli, who published it on the front page on Christmas Eve.

Mattia's unexpected notoriety filled her mother Marinella Campus with pride, at her first pregnancy, and her father Stefano Colombino.

"The birth of Mattia was a moment of freedom after three days spent in the ward without my husband, whom I only saw from the hospital window - she remembers - when we met again, we burst into tears".

In many years of profession, Gianfranca Fiori does not remember a similar episode.

"It was an unexpected reaction - she says - a surprise for me and my colleagues, who wanted to immortalize that moment".

His hope is "that this choice made by the Bergamo newspaper is a good omen for a rebirth".

The director of the operational unit of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Sassari Aou, Salvatore Dessole, was also happy.
