The Prime Minister of Scotland, Nicolas Sturgeon, said that the time has come for Scotland to become an "independent European country", following the announcement of a trade agreement between the European Union and Britain for the post-"Brexit" period.
"The time has come to chart our own future as an independent European country," Sturgeon said in a tweet today, adding that "Brexit is being achieved against the will of the people of Scotland," which voted 62 percent against leaving the European Union.
"No agreement can ever replace what Brexit took from us," Sturgeon said.
It is noteworthy that the Scottish government held a popular referendum in September 2014 in which about 55 percent of the voters rejected the independence of Scotland from Britain, in exchange for support of about 44 percent, while London is currently refusing to allow a new referendum.
