The Education Committee will vote tomorrow on the decision to return fifth- to tenth-grade students to distance learning from home during the closure period, the committee's chairman, MK Ram Shefa, announced tonight (Saturday).

According to Shefa, it seems that there is a majority for canceling distance learning.

"I will not let Netanyahu's campaign considerations harm the children of Israel," Shefa wrote on Twitter tonight.

"5th-10th grade children are promiscuous and must not be held hostage to arbitrary and destructive decisions. Tomorrow in the Education Committee I will stop the default and make sure they return to school soon."

If Shefa succeeds in recruiting a majority, the government's decision will be overturned and fifth- to tenth-grade students will continue to study as usual, even during the closure period.

"MK Orly Froman (Yesh Atid-Telem) also expressed support for the idea ahead of tomorrow's debate. It is enough to shake the children of Israel," Froman exclaimed.

"I intend to demand that during the discussion of the Education Committee also include the fifth- to tenth-grade students in the curriculum, as is currently the case. At the same time, all educators should be vaccinated immediately. If not, I will vote against approving regulations as presented by the government."

On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein and Education Minister Yoav Galant decided that the early childhood education system, kindergartens and grades 1-4, including after-school programs, as well as grades 11-12, will also hold classes in full format during the closure. , As has been the practice under the restrictions until now.

This, after much public criticism of the original decision, which stipulated that the school days would end at 13:00.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, clarified that "the education system will open its gates to early childhood and first to fourth grades in the usual way, as before the closure.

Eleventh-twelfth graders will also study as usual, because we did not want to hurt the matriculation exams that start in a month. " 13:00 as decided in the Cabinet.

The government this week approved a closure starting tomorrow at 5pm for two weeks, with the possibility of extending it.

As part of this, the exit from the place of residence will be limited to a distance of up to one kilometer, restrictions on gatherings will be imposed and trade will be closed.

As for the education system, the original decision stipulated that studies in grades 5-10 would not be renewed, while early childhood education in grades 1-4 and 11-12 would take place in the current outline between 13: 00-08: 00.

Hundreds of thousands of high school students returned to the classroom on November 29 after two and a half months of studying online from home.

Less than two weeks later, the students went on the Hanukkah holiday and the educational gaps continue to accumulate.
