The Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel was officially opened to traffic this morning (27th). To reduce transportation costs for the public, public transport operators and the transport industry, the Lantau Link will also be exempted from tolls starting today.
A large number of citizens joined in to try out the Tun Chi Tunnel. Traffic jams appeared at noon in Tung Chung near the airport and the water was blocked. The Transport Department urged motorists to be patient.
The Tuen Chi Tunnel was opened to traffic this (27) morning. From Tuen Mun South to the airport via the Tuen Chi Tunnel, the distance can be shortened by about 20 kilometers, and the travel time can be shortened by 20 minutes to only 10 minutes.
The government hopes that the tunnel will help to divert traffic. The Lantau Link will be exempted from tolls from today in order to reduce transportation costs for the public, public transport operators and the transport industry.
