In recent weeks, Abu Mazen has sent messages to senior members of Biden's emerging government, saying that the Palestinian Authority is interested in "resuming contacts with Israel as soon as possible through American mediation and without preconditions."
Senior PA officials told Israel Today that Abu Mazen wants to take advantage of the fact that a clear policy has not yet been formulated with the Biden administration on the Palestinian issue in Israel.
"The goal is to hit the iron while it's hot and resume negotiations right now and not wait," a senior Ramallah official said.
The senior official added that if the Biden administration pushed the Palestinian issue and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the end of the list, long months of stagnation in the stuck political process would pass.
At this time, Israel will be able to formulate a policy with the Biden government that will lead to the perpetuation of the current situation, and even worse - to the expansion of settlements and the construction of additional settlements. "
According to the senior official, messages in this spirit were recently conveyed to Washington by the Emir of Qatar, with whom Abu Mazen met in Doha.
