The joint UN and African Union (UNAMID) mission officially ended Thursday, after 13 years of operation in the Sudanese region of Darfur, the mission's spokesperson announced.

The peacekeeping mission ended Thursday, December 31 at midnight in Darfur,
" UNAMID spokesman Ashraf Eissa told AFP, adding that the gradual withdrawal of troops will begin in January 2021, and that 'it will be spread over a period of six months.
