Bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation that brought Syria and Cuba together over decades, based on solid principles, foremost among which is preserving national sovereignty, not allowing interference in the internal affairs of countries, advocating just causes for peoples in the face of American and Western hegemonic policies, and cooperation in a way that enhances the steadfastness of the two countries and realizes the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples.

Embodying the above, Cuba announced its support for Syria and its standing by its side in the face of the terrorist war and economic sanctions against it, and the attempts of Western and regional powers to impose agendas on it that contradict the interests of the Syrian people, while Syria continues to support Cuba in facing the blockade imposed by the United States of America.

The year 2020 witnessed the two countries celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them and they share a vision of the importance of relying on national and local expertise and capabilities in facing the American and Western coercive measures imposed on them and the continued strengthening of cooperation, consultation, trade exchange and exchange of official delegations, the last of which was the visit of a Cuban delegation headed by a member of the committee's secretariat. As a result of the ongoing US embargo since 1960, Cuba has sought to rely on its national expertise in order to secure self-sufficiency and was able to enhance its capabilities in the fields of medicine, biotechnology and medicines.
