Chief of Staff Alon Asor will serve from tonight (Thursday) as Deputy Commissioner of Police, until Chief of Staff Kobi Shabtai takes up the permanent position.
Superintendent Moti Cohen, who has served as the commissioner's deputy for the past two years, went on vacation.
The deputy chief of staff is not allowed to overlap with Chief of Staff Cohen in the coming days.
Asur, 56, previously served as Northern District Commander. In June 2019, he was appointed police chief. Cohen will retire from the police after 33 years.
In his retirement announcement, Cohen, who expected to be appointed permanent commissioner, criticized Interior Minister Amir Ohana when he wrote, Minister Ohana responded with a sting: "The job requires involvement in police work, even if it is a new phenomenon for someone.
