(CNN Spanish) -

The Peruvian police reported this Wednesday, through Twitter, the death of two people during protests by workers in the agricultural sector in the La Libertad region, in the north of the country.

A third person who was ill died in a bus that could not pass because the road is blocked as a result of the protests, according to the regional representative of the Ombudsman's Office told TV Peru.

The interim president Francisco Sagasti rejected what happened.

“We condemn those who incite violence.

We will sanction the police officers who violated the ban on using firearms, "he wrote on his Twitter account this Thursday.

"As a government we stand in solidarity and express our deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased Peruvians," said Violeta Bermúdez, president of the Council of Ministers, through her Twitter account.

Bermúdez indicated that they will adopt the necessary measures to restore internal order and social peace, called for calm and said that the Interior Ministry has been ordered to carry out "an exhaustive and prompt investigation to clarify what happened."

Bermúdez had said Tuesday that the agrarian law approved by Congress "is not a standard that satisfies everyone, but it is a step."

The new agrarian regime law approved on Tuesday replaces the one that was repealed by the same Parliament in early December, when protests began requesting it.

But after the approval of this new rule, the protests have not stopped.

Workers in the sector, as at the beginning of the month, request better working conditions.

The police, for their part, said they regret "the loss of life, whatever its origin" and that the criminal responsibility investigations are in the hands of the Prosecutor's Office.

The Ombudsman's Office demands "the immediate cessation of the confrontations" between the population and the police, and "the Ministry of the Interior and the general commander of the police, give explanations to the country about what happened, in the shortest time."

The protests by agricultural workers began shortly after Sagasti's inauguration on November 17 as the country's president.

Sagasti is the fourth president of the government that began in July 2016, with then-president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.
