At about 3:30 pm yesterday (January 2), officers from the Special Duty Squad of Yau Tsim Police District, based on information and after in-depth investigations, conducted an anti-vice operation code-named "FIRESTORM" with officers of the Immigration Department to conduct raids. A total of 11 mainland women were arrested in 3 hotels in the district, aged between 23 and 35, for "remaining in Hong Kong without the authorization of the Director of Immigration" and "illegal entry for employment", including one A 29-year-old woman was arrested for "violating conditions of stay"; another 26-year-old local man was arrested for "assisting unauthorized entry in Hong Kong".
During the operation, personnel seized a batch of exhibits including mouthwash, condoms, lubricants, etc., as well as approximately 40,000 Hong Kong dollars and approximately 3,000 RMB in cash.
All the arrested persons are now being detained for investigation.
The police stated that the operation is still in progress and it is not ruled out that more people will be arrested.
According to the Immigration Ordinance, Chapter 115 of the Laws of Hong Kong, anyone who violates the conditions of stay valid for him is a crime. Upon conviction, he is liable to a fine of 50,000 yuan and imprisonment for two years.
All travellers are not allowed to engage in any employment work, regardless of whether they are paid or not, without the approval of the Director of Immigration.
