Today, Japan recorded 4,916 new cases of coronavirus, surpassing the 4,000 mark for the second time within 6 days.
According to official Japanese statistics, the number of new injuries includes 1278 injuries in Tokyo, which was the last time that daily cases exceeding a thousand injuries were recorded on December 31, when 1337 cases were recorded.
This brought the total number of injuries in the Japanese archipelago to 247960, while the total deaths reached 3655 cases.
The Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced at a press conference yesterday that he was considering declaring a state of emergency in Tokyo and surrounding provinces due to the outbreak of the virus in it.
Suga's announcement comes after the governors of the four provinces, including Tokyo, urged the government last Saturday to impose a closure on their regions after a significant increase in new infections with the virus.
