Two people were taken into custody and seventeen others arrested on Saturday in Rennes near the Place de la République.
They are suspected of having gathered where a demonstration was to be held in support of the organizers of the illegal rave party organized in Lieuron (Ille-et-Vilaine) on the occasion of the New Year, said the prefecture of Brittany.
Banned by the prefecture, it was canceled Friday evening by the organizers in the face of "threats of criminal sanctions".
Two AFP journalists did not see any gathering at Place de la République where the demonstration was initially scheduled to take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
However, according to the prefecture, "a hundred people" showed up in this square or around it.
