Sweida-Sana
The Public Corporation for Drinking Water in Sweida completed projects last year, at a total cost of 4 billion and 700 million pounds, with the aim of improving the water situation and meeting the citizens' needs.
The Director General of the Foundation, Eng. Wael Shuqair, said in a statement to the SANA reporter that the most important work accomplished included the introduction of four wells with investment after the completion of drilling and equipping them, including Sweida No. 2, Shahba No. 2, Al-Haqf and Abu Harat Al-Badilatin. Two wells were also dug in the villages of Lubin and Harran in order to equip them for the current year in addition to Connecting the water resource well with the water network in Al Majdal town to support water imports there.
Eng. Shuqair explained that within the irrigation project of Salkhad city from the Al-Elyqa wells pool, a tank with a capacity of 500 cubic meters in the assembly center and a pumping hall was equipped, and two wells were connected from these wells, in addition to the preparation of a main reservoir near the suburb of the youth housing in the town of Salim with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters within the suburb irrigation project .
Eng. Choucair pointed out that transmission centers have been established to secure the supply of electric current for wells in Big Picture No. 5, Salakhad 11, Dama Reserve, Sweida 28, Sadad 4 and Khazmah 12, which has achieved savings in the consumption of diesel after it was working on diesel groups in addition to directing an electrical line devoid of rationing for Atil wells. Figures 4, 5, 6 and 8 cost about 120 million Syrian pounds, and work is being done to complete it, as well as installing electrical panels to improve the capacity factor in various well sites in the governorate.
The General Director of the Foundation also indicated that the construction of the new pumping hall in the northern station of the city of As-Suwayda has also been completed, and work is underway to equip it and establish ground concrete tanks in each of the ancient town and the villages of Al-Dur and Harran, in addition to replacing 17 kilometers of old water networks in various regions of the governorate to reduce waste in networks as well as expand networks. The list is 11 km long to serve new subscribers.
The total number of water subscribers in Sweida governorate is about 115,000.
