China has started the fight to limit an epidemic resurgence in Hebei province, on the outskirts of the capital, a showcase of the communist regime.
The authorities immediately imposed a drastic quarantine on more than 22 million inhabitants, to prevent a new epidemic wave that would tarnish the triumph of the second world power in the face of the pandemic.
"We will defend the safety and public health of the capital by all means,"
the Hebei authorities promised in unison during an emergency meeting on January 12.
China reported 103 new cases of Covid in 24 hours on Monday, crossing the symbolic 100 mark for the first time in nearly six months.
A clear recovery, as the most populous country in the world has only registered a handful of new patients per day since the summer.
