The municipality of Greiling is to participate in the establishment of a landscape conservation association (LPV): This did not meet with approval everywhere at the first municipal council meeting of the new year on Tuesday evening.

The municipal councils agreed to join with 9: 2 votes, but the majority was probably not that convinced of this decision.

Greiling - "I am not a farmer and can only vote on it with difficulty", the second mayor Christoph Kitterle threw in the discussion, which was determined by the two farmers in the committee - Mayors Anton Margreiter and Georg Bichlmair.

The head of the community had presented the facts.

At a district council meeting in July last year, great interest was shown in the aim of founding a landscape conservation association.

As can be seen from the meeting template, 80 percent of the districts in Bavaria have already founded a landscape conservation association.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Starnberg are the only ones in the area who have not yet taken this step.

According to Margreiter, the structural change in agriculture means that especially smaller areas are often no longer maintained as intensively as was the case in the past.

The aim of the LPV is to ensure the preservation of the cultural landscape, rare plants and habitats.

For example, litter meadows in the Greilinger Etz, which have not been mowed for decades, could be restored to a higher-quality extensification by the owner.

The maintenance of such areas could become a second mainstay for farmers with the necessary equipment.

Under no circumstances will the association broker land without the consent of the owner, nor will it become the owner of such land.

Maintenance often fails due to the lack of suitable machines.

The LPV could step in here and provide farmers with suitable equipment.

The association could also help in arranging nursing areas.

This also applies to the increasingly complex application for funding.

In districts with an LPV, the maintenance measures have increased fourfold, according to the meeting proposal.

Joining without enthusiasm

Georg Bichlmair saw no need to hand over the tasks.

“It is up to everyone whether they maintain such areas themselves or have them maintained.

Here an organization is being invented again that has to be paid for something that already exists, ”said Bichlmair.

His verdict: “No.

We don't need it. ”The money spent on this can be better used locally.

Cost: 50 cents per citizen

The costs for the community are manageable at 50 cents per citizen.

For the municipality of Greiling this would be around 750 euros per year.

A share of 75 cents per citizen is planned for the district, which is of course levied by the municipalities via the district levy.

In the vote, it was agreed against the votes of Bichlmair and Margreiter to join the association.

The proposal to make approval dependent on whether the other rural districts also join the association was not pursued any further.
