In a good 40 minutes by bike from Starnberg to Munich: The fast connection proposed by the district should make it possible.

City and Mayor Patrick Janik are not entirely satisfied with the planned route in Starnberg, for which 6.8 million euros would have to be invested.

Starnberg

- It is not a matter of a cycle motorway, emphasized Dr.

Monika Schwarzhuber, when she presented the results of the feasibility study to the Starnberg Mobility Committee on Thursday: Bicycle fast connection is the magic word that the district office's bicycle traffic officer tried.

In a good 40 minutes, reasonably fit cyclists should one day come from Starnberg via Gauting and Krailling to downtown Munich - instead of the previous hour, as Schwarzhuber explained.

In principle, local politicians and administrators in Starnberg think that's great - but not the course of the inner-city route.

There are "some concerns about the feasibility", it said in the meeting draft.

Mayor Patrick Janik spoke of “different ideas”.

District traffic manager Susanne Münster wanted the considerations to be understood as a "basis".

How and where bicycle roads, protective strips etc. are developed in detail, of course, is the sovereignty of the city.

Schwarzhuber presented the so-called best variant to the city council.

In the city center, this provides a ring system over Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse, Bahnhofsplatz, Wittelsbacher Strasse and Josef-Jägerhuber-Strasse.

The talk is of a “guided tour in mixed traffic and bicycle streets”, for which 159,000 euros are necessary.

In order to take into account bicycle traffic at the Wittelsbacher Strasse / B 2 junction, 1.3 million euros would have to be invested, just like at the B 2 intersection with Leutstettener Strasse.

The district concept of the rapid cycle connection also includes protective strips on Leutstettener Strasse (20,000 euros) and Riedener Weg, which is already a bicycle route.

Dr.

Charlotte Meyer-Bülow (CSU) criticized: "This is a walking path for families, small children learn to cycle there." Mayor Janik would like it better to lead the cyclists on Gautinger Straße from the north into the city.

The tour along the Riedener Weg is only consistent with a view of the route outside Starnberg - it leads via Gut Rieden towards Gauting and then on via Krailling to Munich.

According to this plan, 15.5 kilometers of the route are in the district.

The study estimates a total of 18.9 million euros for the various measures such as the expansion and renovation of existing paths.

In the city of Starnberg 6.8 million euros would have to be invested - but you would get funding.

The considerations are at the beginning, it is now important for the city to coordinate with the district office and other municipalities.

When asked, Janik says that other mayors are not entirely satisfied with the routes in their municipal area.

Traffic manager Münster emphasized that the city does not have to "go fully equipped, there are also interim solutions".

In his speech, Tim Weidner (SPD) focused on the opportunities and urgency of the fast connection.

Cyclists from the district commuted to the bank in Munich where he works every day - “whatever the weather”.

It is the same with other companies.

“We are building bicycle parking spaces, changing rooms and showers,” says Weidner.

And the big wave of e-bikes is yet to come.

"We shouldn't fight each other on the little things, but concentrate on what is feasible and get started as quickly as possible," he demanded.

The decision of the mobility committee against the votes of Rudolf Zirngibl (CSU) and Michael Mignoli (BLS) was still relatively vague: The city administration should talk to the district office about implementation steps and submit the results to the committee.
