The advisor to the Lebanese President for Medical Affairs, Walid Khoury, confirmed that “the new strain of the emerging corona virus is in Lebanon,” noting that “the Lebanese Ministry of Health decided to send a large amount of analyzes abroad to see the extent of this strain’s spread.”
Khoury said during a televised interview today that “the recent wave of Coronavirus infections deserves attention,” explaining that there are 700 cases that are examined daily in a hospital, and “the solution is to adhere to health measures.”
To that, the Lebanese National Media Agency indicated that the Corona epidemic is threatening the lives of the Lebanese people after hospitals were full until the occupancy rate of Corona patients reached one hundred percent in light of a crisis with medical supplies in addition to the state of medical and nursing body exhaustion.
The head of the private hospital owners Syndicate, Dr. Suleiman Haroun, announced that "the hospitals situation is very difficult in light of the high number of injured, as the rooms have become full, as well as the emergency. This will result in many problems, the most important of which is the difficulty of caring for the remaining patients and the difficulty of separating them from Corona patients."
Haroun added, "From the logistical point of view, the process of receiving patients has become very difficult, in addition to the danger of the spread of the epidemic in light of the Corona patients' invasion of hospitals," explaining that "hospitals try their best to balance between normal patients and Corona patients, but this is not easy."
Haroun appealed to the Lebanese to adhere to the necessary measures to prevent this epidemic because they will not find a place in hospitals if they contract the virus, expressing regret that "there are still people who do not abide by the procedures and do not realize the seriousness of the matter."
In turn, the head of nurses, Dr. Mirna Doumit, said, “The epidemiological situation that Lebanon reached was not surprising because we had alerted us of the seriousness of this stage for months ... and we warned that the coming days will be more dangerous and the Corona virus will remain with us throughout the year 2021, so the best thing is to help us. Each other is committed to health procedures.
Lebanon has entered its fourth day of health, curfew, and complete closure, with the aim of reducing Corona infections, and since this morning the security forces have implemented security measures and curfews, except for exceptions, and have set up checkpoints in all regions, and the heavy rain today in Lebanon helped people stay home.
Yesterday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that it had recorded 41 deaths and 5,872 new infections with the new Corona virus during the past twenty-four hours.
